Because of its rich history, there are a lot of historical places for the tourist to visit in Liguria. Here are the must see historical places to visit during your stay in Liguria.
In Genoa, don't fail to tour The Lanterna. It is the symbol of the city; an ancient lighthouse built on 1543 and is 117 meters tall. Gone is its olive oil illumination used during its construction, being replaced now by a 1000-watt bulb that could reach as far as 50 miles away to the sea. From its top you could get a beautiful view of the city down below and also that of the Gulf and the Riviera.
The Palazzo Real or Royal Palace is another historical place you may want to visit. It was built during the 17th century and was transformed into a baroque edifice patterned after the Roman palazzos. Today, it is now a museum-residence open to visitors. It has a lot of elegant rooms that rivals that of Versailles, and its works of European art, which were placed during the 18th and 19th century, are indeed a sight to behold.
Want to know where Christopher Columbus lived? Then head out to Casa di Colombo. In reality, this name is inaccurate since this building was built during the 17th century over the remains of Christopher Columbus' real house that was destroyed during a French naval bombardment over the city.
Cinque Terre is a beautiful historical place to visit in a sense that technology has not overrun the place. Cinque Terre or Five lands takes its name from the five villages that comprise it namely Corniglia, Manarola, Monterosso al Mare, Riomaggiore and Vernazza. Located along the rugged cliffs overlooking the Mediterranean, no cars can travel through it. Visiting this place would make you feel like living in a different century or in a movie set.
